Description

Yahya Jammeh effectively seized the historic and sacred mosque from the people of Gunjur and made it his personal shrine. An extensive area along Gunjur Beach was stolen from the rightful owners, allowing Jammeh to build new structures while the historic mosque was destroyed. The boundaries of Jammeh's new shrine extend to Madina Salam. Most of the affected landowners have not received any compensation or explanation for their losses.
